Although Richards and Hova are not on the same literary level as some of the library's other series guests, such as Nobel laureate Toni Morrison and Pulitzer prize-winning poet W.S. Past speakers who have been featured in the library series include members of Velvet Underground and David Byrne.
Axl Rose Blames Organizers For Reading And Leeds Fest Debacle
Axl Rose has launched a tirade against the Reading and Leeds Festival organizers after Guns N' Roses were cut short during both of their performances. Though festival head Melvin Benn says the band simply showed up late, Axl argues that they were not given a fair shake. He states: "If you are aware of our changeover time, the average length of our show and the general nature of how these types of festivals run, all of which are no big secrets . . . why book us?"
Axl Rose has launched a tirade against the Reading and Leeds Festival organizers after Guns N' Roses were cut short during both of their performances at the recent event. Though festival head Melvin Benn says the band simply showed up late, Axl argues that they were not given a fair shake.
GNR took the stage an hour late for the performance on Friday, August 27 and 30 minutes late on Sunday, August 29. According to Axl, however, they were only late because the festival crew didn't leave enough time to set up their gear.
"A simple question: If you are aware of our changeover time, the average length of our show and the general nature of how these types of festivals run, all of which are no big secrets . . . why book us?" he writes in an official statement.
He continues: "Is it simply because the lineup on our nights at both festivals sold well? So it's a cash grab with no respect for the fans or the band and somehow an unwanted inconvenience for the cities and law enforcement?"

U2 has reportedly been ordered to pay a $22,000 fine by officials in Barcelona, Spain. The fine follows a series of complaints by area residents that the band was too loud and went beyond the two hour time limit while rehearsing in a soccer stadium last year. The band had played two concerts on June 30 and July 2, 2009 as part of their 360° tour and rehearsed for the shows two days beforehand. Along with U2, Shakira may be facing fines from the Barcelona officials as well.

Along with U2, Shakira may be facing fines from the Barcelona officials as well. The songstress is supposedly under investigation for riding a motorcycle without a helmet during a video shoot in the city. She also allegedly danced in a city fountain, both of which are illegal.
U2 has also made recent headlines for an op-ed piece published by their manager Paul McGuiness. The piece appears in the U.K. edition of GQ magazine and in it, McGuiness argues that "free" media is taking down the music industry.
"If you had to encapsulate the crisis of the music industry in the past decade, it would be in one momentous word: 'free.' The digital revolution essentially made music free. It is now doing the same with films and books," he writes.
